The Burford Recruitment Company is delighted to be working with a highly respected horticultural business to recruit an experienced Senior Gardener to join their Garden Management team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced horticulturist with excellent plant knowledge and strong leadership skills to take ownership of a portfolio of prestigious private and commercial gardens. Working within an established and knowledgeable team, you will be responsible for maintaining exceptional horticultural standards whilst building lasting relationships with clients and mentoring fellow gardeners.
This role would suit someone who enjoys combining hands-on gardening with planning, organisation and client liaison, whilst promoting sustainable horticultural practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage a portfolio of large and established private and commercial gardens
- Carry out all aspects of high-quality horticultural maintenance to an exceptional standard
- Lead, supervise and mentor members of the gardening team, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently
- Plan and coordinate seasonal maintenance programmes alongside the Head of Garden Management
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with clients, offering expert horticultural advice where appropriate
- Monitor the overall health and presentation of each garden, ensuring consistently high standards are achieved
- Champion environmentally responsible gardening practices, supporting biodiversity, biosecurity and ecological management
- Ensure company equipment, vehicles and machinery are used safely and maintained appropriately
The Ideal Candidate
- Extensive horticultural experience, ideally managing large or complex gardens
- Outstanding plant knowledge
- A recognised horticultural qualification
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a team
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads independently
- Strong commercial awareness and a proactive approach to client care
- Excellent communication skills
- A full, clean UK driving licence and confidence towing trailers
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- RHS Level 2, Level 3 or equivalent horticultural qualification
- A recognised horticultural specialism
- Experience working within high-end private estates or prestigious commercial landscapes
- PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates
- Chainsaw certification or other relevant machinery qualifications
