Head Housekeeper / House Manager / Housekeeper / Private Household
Live-out Housekeeper Duration: Permanent Hours: Full Time Live-Out
- Location: Near Cirencester, Cotswolds
- Salary: circa £50,000 gpa (DOE) plus generous annual bonus
- Hours: Full-time Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (plus occasional paid overtime)
- Start Date: As soon as possible
- Other: Full driving licence and own car essential
We are seeking an experienced, discreet and highly organised Housekeeper to support a private family at their beautiful second home near Cirencester in the Cotswolds.
Set within approximately 15 acres, the property comprises a substantial main house, additional guest accommodation and outbuildings. The principals are London-based and spend time at the property most weeks, generally for two to three days at a time.
The successful candidate will ensure the property is maintained to an exceptional standard and fully prepared for the family and their guests. This is an autonomous role suited to an experienced private-household professional who is confident managing external suppliers while remaining hands-on with the housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the main residence and additional properties to an exceptional standard
- Undertake hands-on housekeeping, including cleaning, tidying, laundry and general household duties
- Manage and oversee the existing cleaning company, ensuring consistently high standards
- Prepare the property for the principals and guests, assisting with arrivals and departures
- Liaise with and coordinate gardeners, contractors, maintenance personnel and other subcontractors
- Identify and follow up on maintenance issues and ensure works are completed to the required standard
- Ensure the house is fully stocked and run local errands and shopping as required
- Manage keys and petty cash with complete discretion and trust
- Assist with occasional dog walking and sitting
- Ensure the property remains secure, well-maintained and presented when the family are away
- Anticipate the family’s requirements and deal with matters proactively, allowing the family to make the most of their time while in residence
- Occasional out-of-hours support when family are entertaining/for celebrations
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience as a private Housekeeper within a high-standard residence
- UHNW private household experience is highly desirable
- Excellent housekeeping standards with a hands-on approach
- Confident managing cleaners, contractors, gardeners and other suppliers
- Highly organised, proactive and self-motivated
- Experienced, trustworthy and comfortable working independently
- Excellent attention to detail and strong practical problem-solving skills
- Comfortable having a high degree of responsibility
- Flexibility for occasional (paid) overtime
- A genuine animal lover and confident around dogs
- Full, clean UK driving licence

The successful candidate will be professional, dependable and discreet, with a naturally positive demeanour. They will be proactive in anticipating requirements and will take ownership without needing constant direction, while being comfortable directing tradespeople and service providers.
The family are looking for an extremely capable individual who they can trust completely and who will allow them to enjoy their time at the property free from domestic concerns. They are willing to wait for the right person and value maturity, experience and a calm, pragmatic approach.
